Personal Reflection/Anecdote
Ángeles en los Árboles: A Poem and
a Transition Story
By Peggy King
Ángeles en los Árboles Angels in the Trees
¡Aquí estoy! I am here!
Sentada en la terraza, Sitting on the terrace,
vino en mano, wine in hand,
gozando en los regalos enjoying the gifts
que El Señor nos ha dado, the Lord has given us,
cuando un ángel se me aparece, when an angel in flight appears,
volando con ramita en boca. a little branch in her mouth.
El Señor es artista. The Lord is an artist.
Los pájaros muestran su gloria The birds show their glory
en colores de rosa y rojo, in pinks and reds,
azul y turquesa, blues and turquoise,
negro y blanco. black and white.
Y como nosotros, And like us,
tienen sus diablos, they have their demons,
diablos que no son rojos con tenedores, demons not red with pitchforks,
sino lobos y gatos, lechuzas y perros, rather wolves and cats, owls and dogs,
serpientes que tienen hambre. hungry snakes.
Veo una mamacita que ha ganado la I see a little mother that has won the
lucha. fight.
Se posa en una flor mía, She lands on my flower,
semilla en boca, seed in her mouth,
para sus impacientes, esperando. for her impatient ones, waiting.
He mirado sus huevos pequeños cada dia, I have looked at her tiny eggs every day,
rezando que los pajaritos sobrevivirán. praying that the little birds will survive.
Por el milagro del Señor, Through the miracle of the Lord,
pronto cantarán, revoloteando tambien, soon they will sing, fluttering, too,
mis ángeles en los árboles. my angels in the trees.
