the outdoor furniture was gone. The biggest loss was six large trees that border my property, uprooted by
the wind.

A Gamma Theta Chapter member suggested that I apply for emergency funds. I am so glad that I did!
The funds helped to defray the expenses of removing the debris and cleaning up the property. Please
accept my heartfelt thanks for DKG’s financial support and encouragement.

I was in the Bahamas celebrating my 43rd wedding anniversary when the Eaton Canyon fire tore through

Altadena. From so far away, I watched in disbelief as the fire took everything—our home, my camera gear,
and the memories we built. The loss was more than material; it shook the very ground beneath me. With
nowhere to return to, Rasheed and I were taken in by a retired doctor in the Bahamas who housed us for
a month.
When I finally returned to Los Angeles in March, the reality of starting over hit hard. The process—
navigating insurance, FEMA denials, and the emotional toll of displacement—was staggering. In the midst
of that chaos, my DKG sisters stepped in with a generous gift.

It wasn’t just the financial support—it was the message it carried: You are not alone. Even through the
smoke and rubble, DKG was there—with open hands, open hearts, and unwavering love. That gift restored
something deeper than what was lost—it gave me courage, confidence, and most of all, hope.
