org website, promoted in spring 2023 issues of The Delta Kappa Gamma Bulletin:
Collegial Exchange and the DKG News, shared with DKG’s five regional directors
via email, and, as the deadline approached, placed on the DKG.org landing page’s
rotating banner.
The survey employed open-ended questions asking respondents to consider both
current and potential practices that their state organization, chapter, school system,
postsecondary institution, or other entity is doing/could do that address a teacher
shortage. Respondents were also asked if they were responding as an individual
member or on behalf of a DKG state organization, chapter, committee, or other
group. They were also asked if they wished to have their DKG chapter or state
organization credited in this article and if they gave permission to be quoted. A final
question allowed for further comment.
Teacher Shortage Survey Results
Survey responses totaled 52 out of a DKG active membership of more than
50,000; almost 60% of respondents hold membership in two state organizations,
Georgia and South Carolina. With the addition of responses from members in
Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia, the Southeast Region of the organization
represented 80.8 % of survey responses. With eight responses, the Northwest Region
represented 15.4%; with two responses, the Southwest Region represented 3.8%.
There were no responses from the Northeast or Europe Regions. Survey respondents
represented 44 different chapters in Delta Kappa Gamma (see Table for chapter
distribution).
