DEADLINES
of the Director
May 1 t’s coming...Almost here! The sum-
DKGIEF Cornetet CIPD Imer of 2023 is at our doorstep, and
Applications of course, it promises to deliver a host of
May 1 Nita R. Scott, CAE exciting events. For example, hopefully you
SOPs to request international Executive Director have attended or are attending your state
speaker from International
Speakers Fund organization convention. If you have never attended that event,
please consider it this year! A state organization convention is a
May 1 great way to experience DKG “life beyond the chapter,” which can
NewBEE “Keeper” application lead to a richer membership experience. Immediately after my first
for Phoenix conference state organization convention, I attended the 2006 International
May 1 Convention, where I truly realized what an amazing organization
Executive Board members I had joined! I was so “hooked” at that point that I never missed
return ballot for International
Achievement Award another one — saving money each year to be sure I could attend.
The international conferences in 2023 will offer three very
May 15 different experiences in three very different locations. Consider
Bulletin: Journal submissions attending one, two, or all three of them. You can find all the details
June 30 on the DKG website under “Events,” along with information about
Members submit dues to registration, hotel sites, and educational opportunities. If you are
chapter treasurer
already registered, encourage the other members in your chapter
to come along!
With inflationary prices troubling people and organizations all
around the world, the hotel industry is no exception. So, it is no
wonder that the increasing price of events, DKG or otherwise, is
concerning to many members. Associations of all kinds are finding
it more and more difficult to offer members low-cost venues.
HQ CLOSED Challenges such as increasing supply costs and insufficient staff
are making it difficult for hotels to offer more economical options.
May 29 As I indicated last July at the 2022 International Convention, it
Memorial Day may be time to consider new and different ways to meet, gather,
June 19 and learn from each other. However, until members indicate new
Juneteenth preferences to help our organization develop a solution, our
only option is to contract events based on members’ historical
preferences.
Do you have an idea about a new way to hold meetings? A
different way to offer lodging? The timing of our meetings or the
sites? Whether DKG should offer 3, 2, 1, or no conferences at all?
How to conduct business with or without a convention? Change is
in the air because our membership continues See DIR p. 6
