From DIR p. 4 to decline. Now is the perfect time to offer solutions, even when those solutions might not
be the way we have always done it! Feel free to send your ideas to me or share them with your incoming state
organization president in preparation for her training sessions this year.
Something we introduced in 2021 and that seemed to work well was the State Organization Leaders Train-
ing. This training brought state organization leaders together from around the world. The 2023 training sessions
for state organization leaders will take place June 23–25 in Irving, Texas, at a hotel very near the DFW airport. All
participants who have submitted contact information should have received an email with more information. If
you are designated to attend and have not received any information, please contact us as soon as possible. We
may not have received notice that you are an incoming state organization officer/chair. We are finalizing plans
with the hotel currently, so letting us know as soon as possible is critical.
To sum it all up: Make your plans to dive deeper into the DKG membership experience this summer. If I
don’t see you along the way, I look forward to seeing you in Detroit,
Phoenix, or Tampere this summer!
Celebrate Founders’ Day
this May!
KG Society International celebrates its 94th birthday on May
D11, 2023. In 1929, the 12 Founders set about creating an
organization that would support female educators for years to come.
Now is the perfect time to remember the past while looking toward the
future of DKG. Many chapters take time to put together a program in
celebration of Founders’ Day. On the DKG website under Publications >
Our Heritage, are Volumes I, II, III, and IV of Our Heritage. These books
contain a host of useful information to help chapters prepare for a
Founders’ Day program. Additionally, an “Our Founders” PowerPoint
presentation and script located under Resources > New Member
Dashboard > Orientation PowerPoints may be useful. Annie Webb Blaton, Founder of DKG
As DKG heads toward its 100th anniversary, Headquarters staff have also begun posting videos on
behalf of the Centennial Committee highlighting each decade of DKG’s history. These videos are being posted
annually, one decade at a time. The video highlighting the 1930s is already available under Events > Centennial
Celebration. These videos may prove a useful resource as chapters prepare for their celebrations.
Need more ideas for a chapter program?
• Compare the roles of women in 1929 vs. 2023. Pay special attention to the lives of the Founders and
how their efforts can encourage today’s members to be forward-thinking. Consider things such as the
roles women have played in the community then versus now, the professional opportunities available to
women then versus now, and so on.
• Prepare a script about each Founder. Have members read these scripts in the first person.
• Have members get together to role play each of the Founders. Members may even work in teams to write
a skit detailing how the Society started, how it got its name, and so forth. See FOUN p. 8
