CASEL (2022a) has also offered effective strategies and practices for addressing
challenges and triumphs related to student engagement and supporting students and
their families. The CASEL framework/wheel (2022a) includes social and emotional
competencies and key settings where students live and grow: “The Social Emotional
Learning (SEL) framework, known as the CASEL wheel, helps cultivate skills
and environments that advance students’ learning and development” (What is the
CASEL Framework?). In addition, CASEL (2022b) offers suggestions for systemic
implementation of SEL in classrooms, schools and school districts, families and
caregivers, communities, and state and federal policies. Table 7 provides an overview of
CASEL’s four SEL critical practices for transitioning students, families, and educators
from remote to in-person learning (CASEL, 2020). The CASEL website provides an
in-depth description of each critical practice, including essential questions, ideas, and
tools for preparing and implementing the critical approach (CASEL, 2020).
