a difference in the community? Doing so would not only meet members' needs but
also provide an opportunity for others to learn about the impact an organization
such as DKG can have on schools, children and their families, and the community.
To recognize the value of members’ time, meeting minutes and treasurers’
reports should all be approved via email with responses recorded prior to the
meeting. Approving reports virtually would save time and allow better focus for
adapting in-person meetings to the needs of members. In-person meetings should
be reserved for those in the chapter who desire to meet to plan events, to have
interest groups, or to join together with other chapters to socialize and network
in a home, business setting, or local restaurant. So, for example, retired members
may want to meet for a meal and a speaker, whereas working teachers may want
to spend their free time in a local event that would make a difference in their
community. The latter type of event would also allow DKG to be seen physically
by the community, with media opportunities as well. Many organizations
complement the mission and vision of our Society, such as Every Mother Counts
and iEarn-USA, nonprofits that support mothers, children, and schools; these
organizations would welcome participation by local DKG members.

all could benefit from having them

Julie Drysdale, and Shannon Cato

The topic of a name change has been voted down several times at conventions,
