Celebrating the Spirit that Unites
Us...and the Opportunity for
Collegial Exchange
With this issue, the Collegial Exchange completes its 10th full year of publication! Introduced as a
complement to three issues of the well-established, peer-reviewed Bulletin: International Journal for
Professional Educators that focuses on research and academics, the two issues per year in the magazine
format have sought to focus on the practical and creative aspects of education and of DKG. As its
name suggests, the vision for the magazine was as a place for DKG members to exchange thoughts
and strategies—“to explore and share educational practices, chapter programs and development ideas,
and personal reflections on topics of interest to educators” (Constitution, Article XII, Section C.2.c, p.
C-30). This vision has been pursued without fail through 10 years of remarkable change and even turmoil,
including the COVID-19 pandemic, rapid technological evolution, and cultural transformations that have
impacted membership in countless organizations, including DKG.
But equally important in the title is “Collegial,” for the magazine rests on the principle captured in the
Society’s first Purpose: “to unite women educators of the world in a genuine spiritual fellowship.” At the
core of that fellowship is members’ collective belief in professional and personal growth and excellence in
education. Whenever and wherever I meet a colleague in DKG, I immediately know that she and I share
a sincere belief in the power of education and the importance of a profession that is more a calling than
a job. It is this unity and genuine spiritual fellowship that are highlighted in our international president’s
recent video, Message for Global Unity (https://youtu.be/ijqkkk7zV0s?si=K1ILo0Vb8QL3rzJR), and that
permeate every issue of the magazine dedicated to open exchange among DKG colleagues.
This issue opens appropriately with an article highlighting the Society’s direction at an inflection
point—moving toward its 100th anniversary in 2029 with a keen eye toward reflection about structures
and practices that will sustain us into the #SecondCenturyDKG. The importance of such “revision with
vision” is evident in the potpourri of articles that follow, detailing important initiatives, individuals, and
insights that are part of the amazing impact that is central to our organization. The topics are as varied as
our members and clearly illustrate the diversity of ways in which we share and support each other and
education as a whole.
May you find opportunities for personal
and professional growth and inspiration for
supporting excellence in education as you
“meet” with colleagues in this issue. May
your journey through these pages remind
you to celebrate the unique benefits of the
special kinds of genuine spiritual fellowship
and of collegial exchange that are part of
being “forward moving ever” in Delta Kappa
Gamma.
