Committee: Bloom with DKG
s spring turns to summer and flowers bloom all around, take the time to view “Teachers are Like Gardeners,”
Aa short inspirational TED Talk given by Sir Ken Robinson (2017) on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/
watch?v=aT_121H3kLY.
Teaching and learning are intergenerational. There will be times of teaching and times of learning throughout
every life. Delta Kappa Gamma provides its members with unique opportunities to plant deep roots, grow,
blossom, and bloom where planted. Only when DKG members commit to the blooming of the Society — and
themselves — can DKG flourish. It takes every single member to fill committees and complete tasks. This means
that members take on tasks even when they aren’t excited about them.
For example, state organizations are currently beginning their new biennium. This provides unique
opportunities for members to grow, bloom, flourish, and enrich each chapter, committee, and state
organization. The combined efforts of every member help the whole Society grow strong. Every member
has unique gifts to offer. By taking chances and trying new things, members may surprise themselves with
the amount of confidence they are able to develop. This confidence carries beyond DKG and into the rest of
a member’s life.
Gardens are full of flowers of all shapes, sizes, and colors. Individually, each flower is unique. But together,
they form a beautiful garden. The same is true for DKG. Every individual role in Delta Kappa Gamma – whether
chapter member, committee member, state
organization officer, or international leader
– is equally important to the blooming of
the collective garden. Trust that under the
right conditions, little by little, the whole
Society can flourish.
Commit your talents to DKG whole-
heartedly. Reach out to other women
in your chapter and in your community
whose talents can be utilized. In response,
your own potential will begin to grow
and flourish. The challenge is to use this
potential to serve others and build up DKG.
Someone in your chapter, state organization,
or the international organization is looking
for you to use your talents. Someone in
your chapter, state organization, or the
international organization is depending on
you. Someone in your school or community
is waiting for you to invite her to take root in
the garden that is DKG. Together, Delta Kappa
Gamma will bloom.
