presidents in Europe hosted Zoom
meetings and invited an international
committee member to share an
overview of the committee’s
responsibilities and discuss
highlights of its goals and actions.
These meetings impacted DKG
in more than one way. Committee
representatives were able to learn
more about the interests and
concerns of the participants while
European members were able to
develop a better understanding
of international committee work
that may help them discover new
opportunities for service in DKG.
I’ve had my own opportunities
to make meaningful connections with
specific groups of DKG members. Being
invited to attend many Zoom chapter
meetings has deepened my appreciation
for all who have taken the time to ask
questions, offer support, and share their dreams
for our organization’s future. Meeting monthly
with members who have joined DKG in the last
month and are excited about their new journey
has helped me develop a better understanding of this
group’s expectations for membership in the Society.
I encourage each of you to remember that the world of
DKG has not stopped or slowed down during the last 2 years. If
anything, we may be more connected than we ever dreamed. Technology
has made it possible for us to connect and collaborate in so many
different ways. As we often hear, “The possibilities are endless!”
And speaking of possibilities, perhaps the important question
for all of us as we move forward is HOW we will continue to
promote a strong level of engagement in a world that includes
some people who prefer in-person meetings or activities and
others who want to participate remotely. Many members
have commented that feeling connected has been a
motivation for continuing their membership in the
organization. At the international level, discussions
on this topic have already begun. Addressing this
question in our chapters will be critical because
members’ voices will certainly guide us!
