and Policies and Procedures (GAPP) documents. GAPP is the Society’s place for
safekeeping of its guidelines, policies, and procedures—practical matters that do
not belong in an organization’s constitution or standing rules. Keeping them in
the governing documents that can only be addressed every 2 years ties the hands
of the Society and does not allow for organizational agility to address progress or
change. Placement in GAPP allows these practical matters to be updated in a timely
manner with oversight from the Society’s administrators and elected officials.
GAPP is housed on the DKG website under Governing Documents. For
example, under Guidelines, one can find guidelines (i.e., general rules or principles)
for Chapter Expansion, Digital Meetings, Editing of the Constitution/ISR, Educators
Book Award, and more. Examples in the Policies section, which details accepted
principles that define the Society’s courses of action in varied situations, are Conflict
of Interest, Investment, Society Publications, Statement of Neutrality, and Digital
Communications. Last, the Procedures section, focused on description of the actions
to be taken to accomplish specific goals, contains International Expansion, Non-
dues Revenue Partnerships, Scholarship and World Fellowship Recipients Selection
processes, and Committee Material from Headquarters—to mention a few.

          DKGIEF: Ensuring the Place

          and Functions of the Foundation

A merger of DKG’s Educational Foundation and DKG
Supporting Corporation happened in February 2020, bringing
together two entities to eliminate duplication of purposes and
efforts. The official name of the new entity is the Delta Kappa
Gamma International Educators Foundation (DKGIEF). The
merger simplified both the internal processing and accounting of
funds and the contribution process for members. It also allowed
the Foundation to focus on raising money for and managing the
work of all the Funds, both individually and collectively. These
Funds align with 6 of the Society’s 17 international committees,
suggesting that the foundation is both corollary to and integral to the core work of
DKG. DKGIEF supports effective educational projects, the educational and charitable
activities of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, and professional growth
of educators worldwide. The PA reflects what has already happened, including the
designation of members of the DKGIEF board as “directors” rather than “trustees.”

           Election of DKGIEF Directors

One PA recommends that new members to the DKGIEF Board of Directors will
not be nominated by the International Nominations Committee but by the DKGIEF
Board. Most foundations do not rely on a different body to nominate their directors
because the board itself best understands the qualifications and experience nominees
must have in order to be effective board members. This PA addresses only the
nomination of directors; the directors would still to be elected by the DKG Executive
Board, ensuring member review and input regarding these important choices.
