“ A good leader possesses strong

have the courage to solve the unpredicted.
Claudia has these leadership qualities.
GR: Tell us about yourself. ”
CE: I´m an educator at heart, retired from the school in which I worked for 35 years, currently working
as an educational consultant. My field of expertise is technology in the educational field. I´m a mother of
three and grandma of four. I enjoy cooking, swimming, the beach, spending time with my husband and
family, and working around the house on different things.
GR: I know you have been with the Society for some years. How did you learn
about DKG?
CE: In the 1990s, I used to observe a special group that was planning meetings, getting excited, and
talking about those at the school for which I was working. When I asked, they told me DKG was an
educators’ group that selected members who attended—and participation was only by invitation. Some
years later, I was invited to a meeting, and they gave all the details about the Society and belonging to
it. I accepted the invitation, and on February 1, 1997, I was inducted with a ceremony celebrated at the
University.
GR: Hearing the many positions you have served in DKG—for Guatemala State
Organization and at the international level—what moved you to believe in the
organization?
CE: [I appreciate the] challenges, learning new things, teamwork, and new projects where I can
collaborate with others and embark in supporting good causes.” Claudia added that, as a DKG member,
her favorite parts are the networking, friendship, and learning opportunities DKG offers its members and
concluded by expressing the many memorable experiences that she “relishes and values.”
A good leader possesses strong communication skills, must know how to maintain friendship, and,
above all, must have the courage to solve the unpredicted. Claudia has these leadership qualities. In
addition, she exercises every morning to keep healthy and to help relieve stress. Among her exercise
routines, she practices yoga and breathing, which, she comments, “helps me cope with pressure.”
Claudia’s proactive personality makes her plan in advance and do things ahead of time to avoid pressure.
As an International Speaker and beyond, she is surely a jewel in DKG’s treasure.
Reaching across borders, the International Speakers Fund facilitates exchange of Society speakers among member
countries and helps to unite women educators of the world. Members submit an application to become a speaker. Twice a
year, a state organization president may request an International Speaker. The interactive applications are available during
the application periods: dkg.org > Apply/Submit > Applications.
