Moving Forward
In the spirit of our first Delta Kappa Gamma Purpose—“To unite women
educators of the world in genuine spiritual fellowship”—we must remain
sensitive to the feelings and needs of others as we are from many generations
and many areas of the world. Reflecting on these above qualities, ask yourself,
“Am I a sensitive member? How do others see me? Is there any area in which
I could improve?” Although change is often hard, we must remember our
Delta Kappa Gamma Song that urges us to be “Forward moving ever.”

An Ode to My Students
By Amber Godwin
The line between what I wanted to do as your teacher
And what I did
Seemed always rough but warm
Our sacred class family space was evanescent
Exploring the past
Through whispers that our ancestors kept in fragile jars
We tried to find the truth, we tried to hear all the voices
And reach more into what was said and what was secret
In those spaces
We sought to find the light
To pass that energy on
To make the world a better place
Knowing that was our purpose
We searched for words to say the things
That people cannot say
Because words are not actions…
Family is a verb. Soapstone School

And now that time has passed.
We found family in our classroom.
We found light in our classroom.
And it only takes a spark…
