Dilemma 2: How to align the DKG Art Gallery information with the
website redesign?
Because the Gallery has become such a popular feature among members,
WRTeam members believed it was very important to house the virtual gallery
and the supporting resources in a user-friendly location. Technically, the gallery
is a publication of works by the members, so it was ultimately decided to place
it accordingly within the Publications and Documents tab. This placement is a
concept that members will have to come to understand in terms of looking for
information about the Art Gallery processes and materials. However, a newly
created DKG Art Gallery icon will also be on the layout/body of the homepage for
easy access for viewing the Gallery.
Dilemma 3: How to align leadership resources with the website
redesign to address DKG leadership and leadership as a whole?
As the team carefully analyzed existing website content, they found that
countless items on the current website relate to leadership. In fact, leadership
development is a key goal and emphasis in DKG, so it was decided that a third
major website tab would be devoted to leadership training and information and be
called Leadership Lab. The Leadership Lab tab is separated into two categories
according to a member’s needs: to find information about leading within the
Society and/or to find information about leading beyond the Society.
The first category focuses on materials for leaders within the Society. The
team realized that key users of the website were those at the chapter and state
organization level who need training materials, forms, deadlines, and the like—
materials in which the general member would have no interest—and thus the DKG
Leader Resources segment of Leadership Lab developed.
Once again, the key questions applied: Who is coming to the website and what
does she need? For example, a webmaster at the chapter or state organization
level who clicks on that area within the Leadership Lab will have access to all the
training materials for that position, all the forms for that position, all the deadlines
for that position, and all the flyers and other materials for that position. She will
not have to sort through a segment devoted to all the forms in DKG; she will
be immediately directed to forms related to her area as part of the user-friendly
design. (Note: Those officers who are in place and need access to specific chapter
information such as rosters, dues payments, and so forth will continue to have
that access through the dashboard of MyDKG.) Furthermore, suppose someone is
“filling in” for the webmaster or considering taking the position of webmaster. She
will be able to see all that is involved by accessing the position within the DKG
Leader Resources. This segment thus not only creates focus for a position but also
creates transparency for others as needed.
The second category under Leadership Lab includes general leadership
resources. The category will include materials and links for anyone who is
interested in developing or honing her leadership skills and knowledge—in any
