So how should we interpret our DKG keys?
• The key pin we wear is not a badge of exclusivity; it is a beacon of possibility.
• The term key is not reserved for those with titles or tenure. It belongs equally to those with the character,
courage, commitment, and potential to lead and serve.
This perspective is already taking root across our organization. For example, Alabama State
organization president Dawn Pettit has embraced the symbolism in her 2025-2027 state theme of
DKG: Your KEY to Leadership, where KEY stands for Keep Empowering Yourself. This is a clear reminder that
being key is not a destination, but a mindset, a journey, and a call to uplift others.
In this Global Membership model, chapters would evolve from serving as the first filter to becoming welcoming
mentors and guides by embracing the diversity, enthusiasm, and energy that new members bring. Every chapter
becomes a supportive host, ready to help new educators connect, grow, and thrive within the Society.
No educator should lack a pathway to join our organization simply due to geography, timing, or tradition.
Opening our doors wider makes us stronger and enriches both our Society and the education profession. Let
us embrace Global Membership and envision a more inclusive, modernized membership experience where pro-
spective members can:
• Express interest online.
• Be welcomed directly through International Headquarters.
• Be thoughtfully matched with a chapter, virtual group, or program that fits their needs.
Let our keys symbolizes access, growth, and opportunity and not exclusivity. Let our keys invite and unlock,
not guard and restrict. As leading women educators impacting education worldwide, we must ensure our keys
unlock doors and open opportunities for every woman who shares our passion
and purpose.
