• Is experience serving on a nonprofit board of directors required?
Although prior service on a nonprofit board might be helpful, it is not required. If you have had
nonprofit board experience, you would benefit from considering the questions posed in the next
section as they relate to your board experience.
• If I have not served on a nonprofit board of directors, what other experience would be helpful?
Volunteering with organizations in your communities or working in the business world are
experiences that may directly apply to your work if you are selected. Consider your work and
community experiences as they relate to the following identified director skillsets that benefit
DKGIEF:
» Do you have experience organizing fundraising initiatives or events in your DKG chapter,
state organization, or community? Do you find it to be an outlet for your creativity while
satisfying your passion for a worthy cause?
» Have you sought and written grants (large or small) for other nonprofit organizations as
part of your career path or for community organizations? Do you enjoy the challenge and
reward?
» Do you have experience in helping an organization manage its website to “get out its
message”? Might you find it satisfying to apply this experience to DKGIEF’s outreach
efforts to reach donors and to promote its programs?
» Have you served on the finance committee of an organization, own or have owned your
own business, worked in the business world, or taught business courses? Do you enjoy
the challenge of making financially sound decisions to ensure a business will thrive or a
nonprofit will financially support its short-term and long-term goals?
» Do you have experience in implementing different marketing strategies for a business or
another organization? Do you find it satisfying to see these strategies work to increase the
number of customers or donors for the organization?

exploring the foundation website. Find a link to the DKGIEF website at www.dkg.org. You can
also read the DKGIEF articles published in the DKG NEWS and the Collegial Exchange.
• If I am unable to serve at this time, in what other ways can I help?
If you know of others in your chapter or state organization who have the skill set and passion to
offer, please contact them and encourage them to apply. They may not have considered serving as
a DKGIEF director.

Apply for the Opportunity
Do you have the skill sets and passion to serve the foundation as
a director? If the answer is yes, mark your calendar: DKGIEF will
be accepting applications for the position of director in late spring
of 2023 for service beginning after election by the DKG Executive
Board at the DKG 2024 convention in Baltimore.
The application and general information and requirements for
the position will be posted on the DKGIEF website. The posted
information will also include a description of the process for
applying and the deadline for submission of the application.
