Membership & Expansion
Members of the new Kappa Alpha Chapter celebrate at their initiation ceremony on April 29, 2017.
Step 7: Contact DKG.
Delta Kappa Gamma Society International requires that chapters have 12 members to be chartered.
California State Organization now requires 20 members to charter a chapter. When this threshold
number of applications is received, complete the Request for Charter form found on the DKG
international website: www.dkg.org > Resources > Membership > Forms > Form 21 Request for Charter.
Step 8: Select Officers.
Hold a meeting to select officers. New chapters have such enthusiasm that at times more than one
person wants to be president.
Step 9: Collect Dues.
Until 2022, California State Organization leaders had chapters decide on the dues at their first
meeting and collect dues once the chapter had a bank account. We have changed this policy to have
the treasurer collect dues from the chapter members prior to the chartering of the chapter. Because an
individual becomes a member when dues are paid, our state organization has now set an amount for dues
of new chapters as it had been taking too long to set the dues and get the dues paid.
Step 10: Plan and Hold the Chartering.
Nothing is as exciting as chartering a new chapter! Select a date and place for the chartering
ceremony. When California State Organization chartered its newest chapter on June 14, 2022, Becky
Sadowski, International President 2020–2022, addressed the group via Zoom from Austin. Trish
Woodley, International Membership Director, sent a video for the new members to watch. Many
