importance of vitamins. Through her World Fellowship grant, she will impact the health of women
and children in her home country.
• One of the recipients is from Ukraine. She knows she may not be able to return to her home country
but is already working to improve the lives of her countrymen by volunteering to teach some
Ukrainians who are now in Germany and the Netherlands. She knows that she can help empower
them by teaching them English. Then these Ukrainians will be better able to transition to the new
country and find better employment. This recipient is pursuing this goal at the same time as she is
completing her degree.
State Organizations and Chapters Help
State organizations and chapters spread awareness of World Fellowship in several ways. In
California, a recipient was attending a university near a chapter that then invited her to lunch and
mentored her. She was also invited to be a guest speaker for various local chapters and received
honoraria in support of her efforts. The hosting chapters provided transportation and cultural
stimulations, such as visiting local wineries.
Missouri was fortunate to have a recipient attending a university in the state. She was invited to
attend chapter meetings and was even a keynote speaker at a convention. Members who attended that
event still discuss the impact she made on them by describing cultural differences. One of the Missouri
members helped her with language usage in writing her dissertation.
Delaware has done a variety of things to include World Fellowship recipients. One year they invited
a recipient to spend a weekend at the beach, thereby allowing her to learn more about Delaware. Another
time, they invited recipients to stay with a member and attend a state organization conference—although
the conference was unfortunately canceled
because COVID-19 hit. Another year, two
recipients attended the state conference
virtually. In yet another example, a member
helped a recipient with a math lesson she was
planning; this was completed through email.
Delaware members were able to make personal
connections with some of the recipients—to
the point these foreign women felt free to reach
out for help when needed.
Chapters also encourage members to be
involved by sending letters, holiday cards, and
notes of encouragement to recipients. Some
send notes describing their state so that the
recipient may have a better understanding of
the culture of the United States. One chapter

Raising Funds for World Fellowships
DKG’s World Fellowship recipients will continue to make an impact on world society, but they
do need the help of DKG members. The fellowships are all funded through DKGIEF, with individual
