Also in the area of nominations, one PA seeks to change qualifications for
international nominees from specific experience within the Society to “transferable
leadership experiences in other areas.” Recommendations for nominations would then
“include [a nominee’s] varied leadership experiences for the position [she] seeks.”
Other PAs relevant to nominations seek to make the immediate past international
president a non-voting member of the International Nominations Committee and to
expand the time between an individual’s service on the nominations committee and
her eligibility for nomination to office. These proposals seek to add practical expertise
on the one hand and “alleviate real or perceived conflicts of interest” on the other.
                          Voting

Looking through DKG history, voting for international officers and board members
has occurred through state organization presidents who poll their state organization
members as to their wishes for selection of international officers and board members.
This gives a voice to state organization members who cannot attend the international
convention. One PA suggests that all members attending the international convention
will have a vote in the selection. The impact of this change would be that many members
who cannot attend the international convention for various reasons will no longer have
a voice (through their state organization president) in the selection of elected positions.

                        Membership

As the 2018 convention approached, members were focused on extension of
membership categories—in particular, the addition of a collegiate membership category.
The “story” behind the varied membership proposals was simple and poignant:
Virtually everyone would agree that the power of DKG comes from and
lies within its members—their broad experiences, areas of expertise,
personalities, and skills. Members are indeed the key human resource for
our Society… Simply put, the fewer members, the fewer opportunities for
experiencing the genuine spiritual fellowship that makes DKG special.
In the practical sense, the number of members is important
because it drives funding, which in turn drives programming…
which in turn drives membership…This is a powerful cycle upon
which Society life and growth depend. (CE, 2018, p. 6)
Not surprisingly, membership categories receive a good deal of attention in the 2022 PAs.
                          General

At this time, ISR 3.02 reads: “An active or reserve member who does not belong
to a chapter because of geographic isolation shall be retained as a state organization
active or a state organization reserve member.” A PA suggests allowing members who
do not wish to participate at the chapter level to request state membership status.

                          Reserve Membership (III.B.2.)

One PA suggests that reserve status can be granted to a member who has a medical
disability, not just a physical disability. Because many chapters are able to connect with
