Committee Recognition and
Consolidation
At the heart of work done in DKG are its international committees, and
members once again turned (as they had in 2018) to considering the most effective
and efficient use of these volunteer groups. PAs include proper placement of the
Arts & Humanities Jury and the Editorial Board within the constitutional article
describing committees; these proposed changes reflect the reality of the way
these entities already function and recognize their place in the DKG structure.
Other proposals focus on creating a new reality within committee
structure by consolidating committees to avoid duplication of effort,
ensure appropriate responsibility, and realize fiscal efficiency.
Expansion and Membership
Committees Merger
Several proposals relate to merging the International Expansion and Membership
Committees into one (Membership). Membership and expansion within the Society are
closely related. The committees charged with oversight of each of these topics believe the
matters are best served with one committee addressing both issues. The administrative
board oversees expansion at the international level. Expansion at the state organization
level is most closely aligned with membership and would best be served under the
jurisdiction of that international committee. The elimination of one international
committee will reduce committee meeting expenses by $6,500 per biennium.
Leadership Development and Golden
Gift Fund Committees Merger
According to the DKG Constitution, the Leadership Development Committee
(LDC) is responsible for leadership development at the international level. It
plans the leadership training for incoming state organization presidents and new
executive secretaries in odd-numbered years. Meanwhile, the Golden Gift Fund
Committee selects participants for the biennial DKG Ignite: Leaders Empowering
Leaders Program, held in even-numbered years. One proposal seeks to merge the
committees into one, retaining the name Leadership Development Committee.
Merging of these committees, then, is proposed based on purposes and workload. Both
committees focus on development of Society
leaders. Although Golden Gift at one time
included program grants, its focus now is solely
on planning and implementing DKG Ignite.
The major work of the LDC is completed in
the first year of the biennium and that of the
Golden Gift Committee in the second year.
Thus, the “new” LDC would have time in the
second year to organize DKG Ignite. A merged,
singular committee will house all leadership
